Sad News

...in the new issue of Style (not yet online): the New York Deli will close August 30! Oh how I weep for the loss of Sunday breakfasts with girl friends, pre-Byrd Italian subs, and a walking-distance source for Dr. Brown's sodas and Route 11 potato chips!

It gets worse... According to the Times-Disgrace, Carytown Books and Rostov's are BOTH moving to West Broad St... (at least it's not tacky-FAR West Broad)

So is the Carytown version of Willow Lawn? Golly I hope not. Maybe someone will buy it and make it the New Jersey Deli..."almost as good". ha ha

I will really miss NYD...sniffle.

G*d d*mnit to f*ckin hell! I was not consulted about this! That deli has been there since God himself was wearing knee pants in 2nd grade at St. Patrick's! Bad enough the department stores and the Colonial are gone--now, my hangover remedy food is going too?? Richmond, Richmond, wherefore art thou? And I won't be able to get down before the 30th, either...
Well, the Deli will be able to provide treats for Misty the Cat in their mutual afterlife. She liked cleaning up whatever bits of smoked eel I left behind.

Hells bells. I may have to move again: I bought my house based on being able to walk to businesses that are all moving!!

On the (potentially) positive side, the new ownership says they're planning to operate a deli of some sort, albeit after a short period of closed-ness. While it won't be the same, it's entirely possible that it will be adequate.
The neighborhood is bound to be a positive influence, so let us give them the benefit of whatever doubt.
