Monday: my lib's (adult) book club discussed Feed. One high school teen fellow joined us. He actually cut off possible over generalizations about "you kids today with your technology" by initiating conversation about how he dislikes people with their phones plugged into their ears, seemingly talking to themselves and not engaging with those around them. Pretty much no one but me found it funny; Kid was first to pipe up and say, "well, it's satirical." Most of the group liked it, even those who thought they wouldn't, had trouble getting into it, and whatnot.
Tuesday: teen librarians were charmed by the author at dinner (thanks Friends of the Library!). Topics covered: Virginia during the Revolution (setting for 2nd book of Octavian Nothing), horror films (especially Asian), things we're reading. In the latter category: The Arrival, and also Tales from Outer Suburbia, by Shaun Tan; Stitches by David Small; Capote's Other Voices, Other Rooms; and The True Meaning of Smekday, by Adam Rex.
Tonight: Anderson speaks (mostly about Feed -- about consumerism and technology gone rampant) at a local high school. Join us for this free event!
