The always interesting Sociological Images posted today about travel guides from the mid 20th century that helped African-Americans navigate through hostile territory. Right now I'm reading (among other titles) Cadillac Chronicles, about a contemporary high school boy taking a road trip with an elderly African-American man. Indeed, just this morning I got to the bit when they're involved in a bit of an altercation at a truck stop in South Carolina (I think) because a white fellow didn't like the looks of the two of them.
